Chinese telecom equipment supplier Huawei announced on May 27 that the company will establish a demonstration network based on LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology in eastern Saudi Arabia for Zain, a telecom operator in the Middle East and Africa, according to a press release by Huawei on May 27. Huawei's deliverables include LTE radio access and EPC (Evolved Packet Core) equipment, according to the same source. In addition, Huawei will also incorporate SON (Self-Organizing Network) technology to this LTE/EPC network characterized by high bandwidth, low elapsed time, and high spectral efficiency, with a downlink speed of up to 100 Mbps, in a bid to help Zain save costs for network modernization.

 

Aside from Zain, Huawei also set up a TD-LTE (Time Division-LTE) demonstration network for China Mobile during the Shanghai World Expo 2010. As of the first quarter of 2010, Huawei was involved in the deployment of five commercial LTE networks for telecom operators worldwide, including Norwegian Telenor and TeliaSonera, Swedish Net4Mobility, Belgian Belgacom, and Russian MTS (Mobile TeleSystems).
